The Great Western Flat-Coated Retriever Club (GWFCRC) is a specialty breed club serving the Western United States. The club includes members in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

We hold an annual hunt test in May.

We are in the process of planning a WC/WCX for Fall 2007.

Next year we will celebrate our club’s 20^th  year anniversary, and we have plans for a huge blowout hunt test.

NORTHEAST FLAT-COATED RETRIEVER CLUB

The Northeast Flat-Coated Retriever Club is dedicated to working our dogs in the field. Our club has active members pursuing Trials, Hunt Tests, and good old fashioned bird hunting.  We believe that for our dogs, field work is the most central expression of the Flat-Coat’s uniqueness.

We are most fortunate to have a select group of Field Trialers, the renown Field Goddesses (Bunny, Becky, Margot, Priscilla, and Sally), who along with Mitch Brown (our lone lab Field God)  work tirelessly to train dogs and handlers for success at tests and trials. They give their advice, time, encouragement, and access to their land to raise the level of working Flat-Coats. We can’t thank them enough, but we do try to thank them by continuing to work our dogs in field.

Typically we offer 8-12 club field training sessions and a seminar each year. Many club members assist with our numerous field events. From the Field Goddesses to hunters to pet owners who just like to have their dogs retrieve a few bumpers, the NEFCRC membership works together to get as many Flat-Coats as possible active in field. The best part of these events is, of course, that we always have a blast. In fact, only the dogs have a better time than we do.

Annually we offer a WC/X test, and we will also host a bumper scurry for pups, dogs, and veterans, (10 September, 2007).  Nearly annually we celebrate field with our Fun Field Day, a bumper event that tests dogs from puppy to very advanced levels. The stakes are named for both people and dogs that have made Flat-Coat history.

The Flat-Coated Retriever Club of Illinois, founded in 2003, is predominantly composed of members from the state of Illinois, but we welcome members from Wisconsin and other states.  The title of our newsletter, Tailfeathers, reflects our commitment to working our dogs in the field.   Many members compete in the field at various levels, in both AKC and UKC Hunt Test Programs and in AKC Field Trials.  Within the club itself are several training groups who meet regularly with the goal of advancing their dogs in the field arena.

We host an annual WC/WCX test in conjunction with a fun day preceding the test.  Last year, we sponsored a field training workshop open to all retriever breeds.  Recently, we held a shot flyer day with 18 handlers, 26 dogs and 3 "rounds" of retrieves meant to warm up our dogs for the Spring hunt tests and trials.  The dogs may have stayed warm running out for the ducks, but an unusual cold snap kept the humans shivering for the duration, though we do hope to make this an annual event.  Many members have joined a hunt club as a group, which provides wonderful opportunities for water work on three ponds.  A number of our members use their Flat Coats as hunting companions each Fall in the pursuit of pheasants and ducks.   We encourage everyone in our area to join us in the field, and make FCRCI their regional home club.

The Southern Skies Flat-Coated Retriever Club holds fun/field training days for beginners through advanced at several locations around Florida throughout the year.   We have held them in Southeast Florida -Okeechobee,  Central Florida- Orlando,  Northeast Florida - Jacksonville, and Tampa Florida.

This year’s WC/WCX Test was on March 10, 2007 at Golden Oaks Ranch, in Montverde Fl.  We had a great turn out, and wonderful weather.   Six of 11 WCX entries and seven of 24 WC entries were Flat-Coats, and we had one Curly entered in a WCQ. 

Due to the heat, the field season in Florida runs September through March each year.   We are very fortunate to have many active clubs in our state that hold both AKC tests and UKC tests and monthly training days.

We always welcome and encourage beginners!  Field work is fun and your dog will love it!  We can help you get started and help find training buddies in your area.
