There is a Free program called Audacity which can be used to capture audio as well as edit audio - They have an excellent website complete with tutorials
There are several utilities to capture sound (anything going through your sound card) and record it on the hard drive- The one I use is called Audio Recorder Pro and is available here. (cost is $29)
Generate your own Music from Microsoft Music Producer get it here. Select Music Producer and following the download and install instructions "exactly".
There are many Audio and Video Formats and it is often necessary to convert from one format to another to transfer - here is a program called Format Factory which does lots of conversions.
