I started my working life at the age of sixteen as a studio boy in an
advertising agency in the City of London. In the ensuing seventeen years
there came a variety of work in advertising and publishing on the art side
the last as art director of publishers Sphere Books.
I left Sphere to become a freelance designer and was for some years
involved in designing book jackets (among other design work).
It soon became apparent that, as a freelance, I was expected no only
to design covers but to include illustrating them for the same fee.
Which is how I became an illustrator as well as a designer.
